Letter to the Editor: Support workers at Elmwood deserve fairness

I am a Support Worker at Elmwood Group Homes (EGH) who works very hard to support the residents I care for. At EGH, we provide physical, social and emotional support for residents with physical and/or intellectual disabilities in a homelike setting.

I love making a positive impact on the residents’ lives with my daily work and consider our residents a part of my family. But without a pay increase in four years, I’ve had to take on a second job in order to make ends meet. I’m a single mom with two daughters — one is in university and the other is on her way this fall. I have many bills to pay and everything around me has gone up in price, except for my wage.

We know we bring joy and value to the residents we care for but the lack of a real wage increase from the employer at EGH makes us feel undervalued and under-appreciated. Please join us, the Support Workers at EGH, in standing up for fairness.
