Saskatoon – Members of SEIU-West employed at Revera Retirement Homes in Yorkton, Regina and Saskatoon who have been at the bargaining table since October 2011, are seeking conciliation through the Labour Relations Board in order to resolve the last issues with their employer. The Employer walked away from the table on April 11, 2012 because they have refused to accept that all of their workers should be treated equally in respect to their wages.

“We have been able to reach agreement on everything except wage parity,” said Kerry Barrett, SEIU-West Negotiator. “Revera’s wages are different for each of the three facilities currently in negotiations, even though the cost of living is similar.”

“The members previously gave their bargaining committee a strike mandate, but we hope that conciliation will resolve the outstanding issues,” stated Mr. Barrett.

“The difference in wages between the three cities is significant,” said Barbara Cape, President of SEIU-West. “The Union members are prepared to negotiate but the Employer has walked away,” continued Ms. Cape. “Through it all these members have continued to provide the best care to the residents but they need to have a living wage.”

This is the first collective agreement for these three Revera locations. SEIU-West represents other workers who are employed by Revera Bentley’s in Moose Jaw, Regina and Swift Current.

SEIU-West represents approximately twelve thousand working people in the province of Saskatchewan. They include members who work in healthcare, education, municipalities, community-based organizations, retirement homes and other sectors.
