On Thursday, October 13th, the Extendicare Bargaining Committee met with facility Administrators, DOC’s and Schedulers to discuss the implementation of the new scheduling system. This new system will come into effect on Monday, November 7, 2011 in all of the Extendicare facilities. Attached is the document created as a result of the discussions in this meeting. Please review it carefully as there is a strong onus on the individual employee to know, understand and co-operate in this system. (more…)

Norm Zimmer, Extendicare’s Labour Relations Consultant, has advised me that the last draft of the Collective Agreement is agreed to and the parties are now ready to sign the document. This morning, I spoke directly with Cathy Hauck, Regional Director. We have scheduled a meeting of the parties to conduct the formal signing for Thursday, September 8th (more…)

On August 24 & 25, President Barbara Cape and Staff Rep Kerry Barrett attended information meeting with Elmview, Sunset and Parkside Extendicare facilities in Regina. The offer to hold meetings in both Saskatoon and Moose Jaw is being addressed by your unit chair people.

INFORMATION ON THE COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT PROVISIONS
On Tuesday, May 31, 2011, the membership of the five Extendicare facilities conducted a ratification vote of the Tentative Collective Agreement reached with the Employer on May 10th. The membership voted 86% in favour of the new Agreement. (more…)

Saskatoon – SEIU-West began collective bargaining with Extendicare (Canada) Inc. in April of 2011. Typically, this negotiation follows the pattern set by the SEIU-West negotiations with the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations and the provincial health care provider collective agreement. After five meeting days, the parties concluded a tentative agreement. A ratification vote was conducted by SEIU-West on May 31. The result of this vote was that over 85% of the SEIU-West members who cast their ballot voted in favour of accepting the tentative agreement. The Employer has also ratified the tentative agreement. TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED!
The parties met on May 9 and 10 and at the end of the day walked away with a tentative settlement for a new Collective Agreement covering the period April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2012.
