If you are an SEIU-West member working for the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and you receive a communication from your employer indicating that you owe them money back for an N/52nds overpayment, please:
Info pickets provide an opportunity for SEIU-West members to send a message to their employer and to the general public, that bargaining needs to progress and SEIU-West members deserve a fair contract!
A member has medical advice that they are not able to work in any occupation due to their disability. After ongoing stages of appeal processes to be approved under the Disability Income Plan, the member has finally been approved! This news will surely improve our member’s wellbeing and SEIU-West is proud to work alongside members who aim to achieve justice!

The Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses (SALPN) Education Conference and AGM is being held in Saskatoon on May 8 & 9, 2018.
We’re excited to announce another round of live and interactive virtual town hall meetings for our health care sector members.
Your SEIU-West SAHO and Extendicare bargaining committees are inviting you to participate in this call so you can get the inside scoop on negotiations, ask your questions and take part in on-the spot poll questions that will help guide our continuing talks with your employers.
How do you get on the call? All you have to do is pick up your phone when we call just prior to the meeting time.
Make sure we have the right phone number on file! Use the sign up form or contact the MRC at 1-888-999-7348 ext. 2298 to ensure we have your preferred phone number on file. Please let us know by February 16, 2018 (after that time we cannot guarantee that new numbers will make it on the first dial out).
Can’t make it or just want to get that nagging question off your mind? Send us your questions in advance.
Save the date! The town hall calls are happening on the following dates and times:
A member was denied Adoption Leave request documents by her Employer despite clearly qualifying based on her specific situation and her intent to adopt. After extensive negotiation with her Employer, SEIU-West was able to secure the correct documents and she will be able to complete her application for leave. Great work!

"You break it, we fix it!" - Jack and Brett.
SEIU-West sent a letter to Ministers of Health, Jim Reiter and Minister of Rural and Remote Health, Greg Ottenbreit to follow up on our January 9th meeting with them. Its main purpose is to hold them to their commitment to walk a day (or portion thereof) in the shoes of one (or more) of you. Please see the letter here.
Apply to attend the SFL/CLC Spring School being held at Elk Ridge Resort, Waskesiu, Saskatchewan from May 7 to May 11, 2018! The Education Committee will be sponsoring up to six (6) delegates to attend. They will cover registration costs, lost wages, travel costs and meal expenses for those who are selected to attend.
A year ago, a member went on unpaid leave following a workplace injury as her workers compensation claim was denied. The member then applied for the Disability Income Plan with the assistance of a SEIU-West Rep. Recently, the member found out that she has been approved. She will now receive back-pay since she had to leave work last year! What great news!

An Employer was hesitant to accommodate the most senior member in awarding a posted position. Once SEIU-West intervened, the member information supported a formal accommodation and they were awarded the new position they were entitled to. Great work!

We have an excellent win to report on behalf of a new Unit Chair. This Unit Chair was just elected and within 5 days in their leadership role, they successfully resolved an issue after taking part in a Step One Meeting with the Employer. We’re very proud of this new leader!
