Federal dollars needed for care
Medicare, a service provided for all Canadian citizens, is publicly funded through a combination of both federal and provincial tax dollars.
Recently, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a stop in Saskatoon and announced that the federal government has committed to investing $32 million for long-term care. He went on to say this money could be used for repairing ailing infrastructure and hiring more staff.
Without missing a beat, the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, Seniors and Rural and Remote Health Everett Hindley admitted that the full $32 million would be used to offset pandemic dollars already spent!
Trying to recoup health-care dollars spent during the pandemic at the expense of vital services needed by this province’s elderly today should never be considered.
