The SEIU-West Workers of Colour Multicultural Mentorship Committee partnered with SEIU-West's Young Workers Committee to provide Stop Racism Shirts for International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. In the application form, they had an additional optional question:

Tell us what you do to create an inclusive community.

Rhom A:

It's very simple, you just need to treat others the way you want them also to treat you. It's a domino effect; if you do good to others, respect them and value them, it will automatically come back to you. How you treat and respect others means that people across varying identities are and feel valued, welcomed, respected, included, represented, and heard. They fully belong, can be authentic, can contribute to the collective, and have a voice.

Jilane B:

I listen to everyone's story. I get to know the person and understand that we have similar interests and goals in life. I respect everyone's uniqueness. We all have different backgrounds and cultures, but that doesn't mean we can't learn a new perspective from each other.

Yvonne T:

Representation and inclusion are essential because they promote diversity and equality. When everyone sits at the table, their unique perspectives and experiences can be shared, leading to more informed decisions and a stronger community. Certain groups may be left out or marginalized without representation and inclusion, which can lead to feelings of exclusion and inequality. Furthermore, representation and inclusion can help break down barriers and foster greater understanding and empathy between different groups. This can create a more cohesive community where people work together towards common goals and support each other.

Shirley R:

Treat everyone with respect and in the same manner, no matter who they are or what they believe. Be friendly and kind to everyone. You never know how you could change someone's day or life just by being kind.

We loved hearing all your answers. These four 4 winners will be contacted to receive their prizes in the coming days.
