Greetings Sisters and Brothers,

The Union and the Employer met on Tuesday the 21st of October, 2019, for the first of three scheduled days of conciliation with a representative of the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety. The Union’s committee was cautiously hopeful but we were very quickly disappointed and insulted.

The Employer was not willing to negotiate at all. They refused to meet in the same room and simply told us through the conciliator that all they were willing to offer was the same wage proposal that they made at our last bargaining session in June - the same offer that led to the impasse in the first place. After 4 months of waiting the conciliation process was over before noon on the first day.

For the record the offer was 0% for the 1st and 2nd years, 1% in year three (this year), and 2% in each of the 4th and 5th years. A total of 5% over five years with no retro.

The Union notified the Employer that we would be going back to the membership to report on their unwillingness to bargain or even meet with us to talk about it and that we would be starting preparations to seek a strike mandate. We will be holding information meetings in the week of the 28th of October in Saskatoon and Regina and we will be making announcements regarding upcoming meetings for job action votes in the very near future. We need to work together to get organized to send a message to the Employer that we will not accept less than what’s fair and reasonable and that what they are offering and the way they are conducting these negotiations is unfair and unreasonable.
