We stand in solidarity with Saskatchewan Union of Nurses and call on the immediate installation of a metal detector at St. Paul's Hospital, along with more security measures to ensure that patients, their families, and staff have confidence that when they are accessing care at a Saskatoon hospital, they are in a safe environment.
Recently, members attended our Domestic Violence Workshop that SEIU-West provides, in partnership with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC). Those who participated in the course wanted to share some resources like:
Saskatchewan has the highest rates of Domestic Violence in Canada.
Check in with your employer: do they have a policy statement and prevention plan to eliminate workplace violence? All provincially regulated workplaces are required to have one as per the Saskatchewan Employment Act.
Comments from training:
- This was so full of information. It's great to have available for members. I think moving forward I can do a better job to help others.
- I was impressed with the information and amount of information. It was excellent.
- The facilitators are very knowledgeable. They tackle lots of topics that are helpful. This is very important training.
We have been providing this workshop to our member leaders yearly since 2017 so they can provide support to members experiencing domestic violence.
