A message from the SEIU-West Executive Board
The Executive Board of SEIU-West strongly objects to the proposed use of the notwithstanding clause by the Government of Saskatchewan.
The fundamental expectation that government must protect our rights and freedoms cannot be understated.
Using the notwithstanding clause to ignore and destroy the rights and freedoms of the people of Saskatchewan strikes at the very core of our beliefs—that human rights are paramount, always. Furthermore, we believe the violations sought by the Government of Saskatchewan violate the letter and spirit of United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, a Treaty of which Canada is a signatory.
