Hello Sisters and Brothers,
The current Collective Agreement’s term is January 1, 2016 to March 31, 2019. After consultation with the membership, the Union Bargaining Committee met with the Employer from February 10 to 12, 2020, to begin negotiations to achieve a new Collective Agreement.
As is customary, the two sides exchanged non-monetary proposal packages first. The parties exchanged information and opinions about issues currently affecting the workplace, including concerns brought forward by the members through the consultation prior to bargaining. The discussions led to several items from the Employer’s and the Union’s proposals being agreed without amendment.
Both sides also expressed the wish to resolve this round of bargaining in a collaborative and constructive way and undertook to make every effort to avoid the break-down in negotiations that marred the last round of bargaining. The successful start so far has raised the Union committee’s confidence that we will be able to achieve our goals while meeting our member’s interests.
The parties are set to meet again on February 24 and 25, 2020. We will be exchanging requested information prior to that date.
