Greetings Sisters and Brothers,
Finally, your Extendicare Bargaining Committee has met with the Employer to commence bargaining.
The Bargaining Committee met October 27th to caucus and then met with the Employer on October 28th and 29th. Interestingly, due to the impending transition, SHA has an observer at the table. The Union and Employer committees exchanged proposal packages and we met several times over the two days to discuss out proposals and present counter offers. There are some significant differences gap between the Employer’s proposals and the Union’s proposals on behalf of our members.
Our bargaining committee’s goals are to ensure a healthy and safe work/life balance for our members, and that all of our members’ contributions are valued. The Employer’s package has a different orientation. However, some steps have been made in getting closer to an agreement.
Your bargaining committee will be setting up virtual membership meetings in the near future to discuss issues around seniority proposals and other topics. Please keep an eye out for notices about the meetings.
We have dates to continue bargaining on December 7th and 8th.
