5th day of Christmas – Forced Overtime
Health care workers are often mandated to remain at work or to return to work without adequate rest periods between shifts. In some areas, members have reported working in excess of 16 hours or being on standby and returning to the workplace as many as three times during the night. This constant burden upon our members is largely due to insufficient staffing numbers. It’s hard to recruit and retain workers with stagnate wages, unsafe care environments and a lack of institutional support.
