Dear Members,
For the week of March 22-28, SEIU-West is proud to celebrate Health Information Professionals Week!
We spoke to one of our Health Information Management Practitioner (HIMP) SEIU-West members, Aimee, to find out more about her vital role in making sure our health care system runs smoothly.
Aimee took a two year Health Information Management course through Saskatchewan Polytechnic so that she could become a HIMP. She likes working with different departments, educating on information management and the importance of documentation as it relates to patient care.
The daily responsibilities of Health Information Professionals involves juggling several tasks and handling challenges daily. Aimee’s job involves addressing technical issues and questions from staff regarding scanning or data quality questions that come forward.
She answers calls from stakeholders and is in charge of coordinating chart pools for research. She ensures paperwork is filled out and signed off and writes reports.
A memorable moment for Aimee was when she was on the project team for implementing scanning software. Seeing the process from start to finish to develop a form for electronic health records was empowering.
We are proud to celebrate the health care heroes that are Health Information Professionals!
