Today, March 8, is International Women's Day and this year's theme is Break the Bias.
Bias is defined as "prejudice in favour of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair.
The gender bias has been a part of the collective consciousness for so long it's ingrained into our everyday lives. Most people have heard gender-based pay gaps, or the age-old "math and science are for boys" statements that discourage young girls from pursuing interests and jobs in STEM fields.
In 2022, it is no longer enough to know these biases exist. We must act against them by calling out behaviour that perpetuates gender-based stereotypes, discriminates, and enforces the bias. We must work together to #BreakTheBias.
For more information about International Women's Day and to participate in this year's theme, check out their website.
International Women's Day is also a day to celebrate the achievements and contributions women have made. We want to hear about the women who #BreakTheBias and inspire you. Send your stories of inspiring women to [email protected] by 5:00 pm Monday, March 14 to be entered to win.
This contest is open to all members and winners will be chosen by random draw for prizes including a set of tickets to see the comedic play The Revolutionists. Stories will be collected shared on the website.
