As the holiday season approaches, many in our community may need a little extra support. If you know someone who could benefit from a helping hand, we invite you to nominate them for one of five Christmas hamper baskets or one of thirty Co-op gift cards, courtesy of the Young Workers Committee and Nursing Care Committee.

Sisters, Brothers and Colleagues,
Your Marian Chateau bargaining committee met with the Employer on October 22, 2024. We expected to receive a monetary proposal from the Employer. The proposal we received was far from fair or reasonable. The committee let the Employer know their offer was insufficient and that the committee would be meeting with the membership to determine our next steps. The membership meeting was held on the same day - Oct 22, 2024 at 7pm. The membership had been informed previously through poster and email that the topic of the meeting was to discuss bargaining, and if required to hold a vote for strike/job action. This meeting was well-attended by our members.
The members were informed what occurred at the bargaining table during negotiations on Oct 22, 2024. By far, the biggest issue is the Employer’s monetary proposal of 1%, 1%, and 1% over three years. The Employer failed to address our proposal of premium pay in any meaningful way.
The committee answered member questions about the strike processes and steps that would be taken to ensure we will be in compliance with The Saskatchewan Employment Act (SEA) and Legislation. We also talked about having to reach impasse, which seems a real possibility given the Employer’s attitude to date, before we can take further steps with job action. The members voiced their frustration with the Employer and agreed to a strike vote at the meeting. The results of the strike vote indicated overwhelmingly that the membership is willing and ready to take job action to impress upon the Employer the level of our determination to get a fair and reasonable deal.
The Union and the Employer have agreed to return to the table on November 4, 2024. The bargaining committee will let the Employer know the membership has given the committee a strike mandate. We will let the Employer know their offer is nowhere close to good enough, and we will let them know just how disrespected the membership is feeling with this offer. We hope the resolve of our members, demonstrated in their support for the committee and possible job action, will persuade the Employer put a fair and reasonable offer on the table that our members can accept.

Dear Members,
We want to thank those who were able to come out last week to attend our very successful media event at the Legislature in Regina. It was great to see members from the three Health Care Provider Unions (HPUs) from across the province stand together in solidarity. During Question Period, multiple MLAs asked questions to the Premier and the Minister of Health on our behalf. We were also able to have meetings with the Opposition Caucus and the Minister of Health to address our concerns over the slow pace of bargaining and the state of health care in our province.
