Saskatoon—A Memorandum of Agreement has been voted on by SEIU-West Community Service Workers (CSWs) employed by LutherCare Communities Group Homes.
“The Employer finally came to our members with a reasonable offer that we were willing to take to a vote,” says Barbara Cape, President of SEIU-West. “The members have voted to accept the offer.”
SEIU-West members have been negotiating their contract for over 14 months. When talks stalled earlier this year, they served notice of strike action to their employer on April 22, 2024, which removed some of their services, and further escalated it on April 29.
“The Employer finally agreed to provide the wage increase we needed and paid recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday in this collective agreement,” continues Cape. “The SEIU-West Bargaining Committee was able to achieve a resolve to the concerns regarding scheduling that were a priority for the staff working for LutherCare Communities Group Homes.”
SEIU-West members want to thank all those in the public and the broader labour movement who supported them throughout their job action and lengthy negotiation process.
