In December of 2023, the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board (SLRB) delivered a decision transferring the Moose Jaw and Preston former Extendicare Canada Inc (ECI), facilities to the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). In that decision, the SLRB directed the SHA and SEIU-West to transition the collective agreement from SEIU-West/ECI to SEIU-West/SAHO (SHA) collective agreement. SEIU-West has begun those discussions with SHA and will be updating our members on this work.
However, there is a more immediate question of statutory holidays, specifically: the former ECI facilities had the second Monday in June as a stat and the SHA has Easter Sunday as a stat.
In order to preserve and protect our members’ negotiated statutory holidays, SEIU-West has negotiated a Letter of Understanding (LOU) with the SHA that transitions our members to having the Easter Sunday stat holiday instead of the June stat holiday. You will not lose a stat, but it will move to a different day. This is effective March 21, 2024.
The work to negotiate an orderly transition will continue and we will provide you with an update on that process.
