While we recognize that there is a whole team of professionals that contribute to our health and wellbeing, this week is an important one as we show our appreciation for the nursing team. These are the team members that provide hands-on care to those in hospital, community and long term care settings.

SEIU-West marks National Nursing week as a celebration to acknowledge the incredible skill, professionalism  and compassionate care displayed by our members who are essential to the nursing team. The knowledge and ongoing assessment of nursing team members creates a care environment with more favourable outcomes for our patients, clients and residents . This valuable work is done by a diverse group: whether it be a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA); a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); a Personal Support Worker; or a Direct Care Worker…in our communities, hospitals, nursing homes, group homes, or retirement homes, these valuable members contribute to our health and well-being.

SEIU-West annually requests the provincial government to designate CCA day (May 12) and LPN day (on May 13)

On behalf of SEIU-West, I want to thank everyone who provides front line care as a valued member of the Nursing team. Your dedication and ability is impressive particularly in light of the overwhelming odds you face daily with short-staffing and crushing workloads. In the context of COVID-19, your challenges are compounded with a need to ensure that care is safe for everyone.
