Dear Members,

Last week, your SEIU-West Bargaining Committee met virtually with representatives from SAHO.

Our comprehensive proposal package has been presented to the Employer and negotiations on key issues continue. We maintain if the Employer attends upcoming dates and are reasonably prepared to bargain the outstanding issues, a resolve could be reached sooner than later.

Of the unresolved issues, we continue to hold our position on the Employer’s proposal regarding their ability to move work around the province, including across union boundaries. We do not accept the disruption of members’ lives as a “solution” to chronic insufficient staffing levels. The current collective agreement already contains language that allows some movement of work, provided it is within established limits and safeguards that respect your rights.

We meet again in early September to continue negotiations.

Thank you to everyone who was able to join the recent healthcare forums and share the very real impact the Employer’s bargaining delays have on their lives. While we’re grateful some MLAs were present to hear your stories, we demand proof they listened by seeing action.

If you can, contact your MLA, the Labour and Health Ministers, and other government officials. Your continued pressure on government is creating positive momentum at the bargaining table.

If you have collective agreement questions or issues, contact the Member Resource Center at 1-888-999-7348 ext 1, email [email protected], or complete the Contact Us form on our website, www.seiuwest.ca.

In Solidarity on behalf of the SEIU-West Bargaining Committee,

Lisa Zunti
President
SEIU-West
