Dear Members,

SAHO announced earlier today that they have reached a tentative agreement with SGEU, one of our sister unions in the health provider (HPU) group.

We wanted to provide you with a brief response to this news.

This development will not affect our bargaining strategy, nor undermine our bargaining position.

We have been closely following SGEU’s strategy and proposals, and it has become clear over the last couple weeks that SGEU has chosen to pursue an agreement as quickly as possible, without the other two HPUs (SEIU-West and CUPE 5430). SEIU-West has been preparing for that possibility.

We believe that we can serve you better by holding to our strategy and to our core positions, which are detailed in our previous updates.

We do not believe it is in your interest to give too much away and get too little in return just to get a deal quickly.

Your bargaining committee met on October 20 and 21 of this week to prepare for our next scheduled bargaining sessions of October 28, 29, and 30.

We will provide more information early next week. In the meantime, don’t be alarmed.

Please watch for further updates and send any questions you have to the Member Resource Centre at 1-888-999-7348 ext 1, email [email protected], or complete the Contact Us form on our website, www.seiuwest.ca.

Sincerely,

Your SEIU-West Bargaining Committee
