Your SEIU-West bargaining committee met to caucus from Jan 11-13 in Saskatoon.
Our focus continues to be reviewing the information we received on the member bargaining surveys and finalizing our proposal package and bargaining strategy.
We have met with our coalition partners, SGEU and CUPE 5430 and identified a number of shared priorities.
The priorities of the committee as directed by our membership, focus on addressing retention issues and improving the compensation of our members, who have been hard hit by inflation and loss of purchasing power. But deeper than that is the impact of the past three years of the global pandemic and a healthcare system that is collapsing under the weight of short staffing, inadequate retention or recruitment efforts for a problem that began over a decade ago, and the lack of positive, real actions by government to address the issues.
SEIU-West develops proposals based on the information received from members through bargaining survey responses, input at the bargaining conference, reports from calls to the Member Resource Center, staff identification of ongoing issues and the knowledge of our members who sit on the Bargaining Committee. As a rule, we don’t release the specific language or strategies related to bargaining at this juncture as employer representatives monitor this information.
