In 2024, Canada experienced yet another record-breaking. year of extreme weather events driven by climate change, including heat waves, wildfires, and floods. Scientists project an increase in these events in the coming years.
In response, SEIU passed the first Canadian Climate Resolution at the 2024 Convention. Immediately, the union-wide Climate and Environmental Justice Committee was formed and their first meeting was held in October 2024 (including representatives from Local 800, Local 298 SQEES, SEIU-West, and SEIU Healthcare Canada).
We have created a survey to gather information on what SEIU members in Canada would like to see as the key environmental priorities for their Locals. We will use this information to help guide the work of the Committee in 2025.
