SEIU-West has been given the opportunity to contribute to the Saskatchewan government's review of the province's Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
We crafted and submitted a response brief that was shaped by:
- Discussions with SEIU-West staff and leadership, ensuring our submission captures the diverse experiences of workers across unorganized, newly-organized, and long-established workplaces; and
- An online survey targeting SEIU-West members, particularly those who have recently participated in their workplace’s Occupational Health Committee (OHC). We appreciate the valuable input from all participants.

This submission highlights various challenges associated with Saskatchewan’s OH&S legislation, specifically the Saskatchewan Employment Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. We urge the government to consider these matters seriously and work towards addressing the following concerns:
- Violence from patients/residents and "Code White" situations.
- "Hallway medicine" creating hazards
- Travel safety
- OHC operational concerns
All of these issues need to be resolved for the safety of workers across the province.
