Earth Day is around the corner, April 22nd, and we are marking it with a critical webinar on extreme heat. "Heating Up: Special Earth Day Webinar" is scheduled for April 22nd from 7:30-8:30 PM EST/4:30-5:30 PM PST. The webinar will cover what to expect this summer across North America, how to protect yourself and those around you, and what your rights are at work.
The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (the STF) has been bargaining with the Government and Trustee bargaining committee. They have reached an impasse and are unable to make any progress. The STF has notified their members that they will be holding a vote on sanctions against their employer.
SEIU-West unequivocally supports the STF and their efforts to get a fair collective agreement. And we will extend that support across the province and across all sectors.
For our members in the education sector, this means that if there are STF sanctions, we will support those sanctions.
We will not do work of the STF bargaining unit, including:
• Supervision – before or after school,
• Recess supervision, and
• Lunch supervision.
If you are currently doing these duties, that will not change. If the employer approaches you to do these duties, and they are part of the STF duties, contact the Member Resource Center immediately. We are asking our members to stand with the STF in solidarity.
You can also show your support by participating in Tell Them Tuesdays (www.tellthemtuesday.com)
The workers united will never be defeated.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact the Member Resource Center at [email protected] or 1-888-999-7348 Ext. 2298 or use the contact form on seiuwest.ca.
In Solidarity,
Barbara Cape

Bob was an absolute force and he used his superpowers tirelessly decade after decade to further his “personal” agendas of labour rights, women’s rights, occupational health and safety, and above all else, solidarity!
Over 100 workers at Saskatoon’s Prairie Harm Reduction (PHR) were laid off as of 5 p.m. Thursday, April 9. This included 76 SEIU-West members in youth group homes, family support services, and PHR’s education department, who were preparing to negotiate their first collective agreement with PHR.
