Date: April 28, 2023
Greetings Sisters, Brothers, and Colleagues,
Your SEIU-West bargaining committee continued negotiations with the employer committee consisting of the Sienna Director of Labour & Employee Relations Dea Mantel, and your facility manager Dianne Aasen, on April 26th, 2023. The union committee presented a package that included the issues you identified at the April 19th unit membership meeting, including a wage proposal with a pay grid. Sienna responded to the complete package late in the day, pretty well rejecting every one of our monetary proposals as well as proposals to fix the hours of work issues.
This sets the tone for some tough negotiations ahead to conclude this round of bargaining. The Employer apparently does not feel motivated enough to take our wage and benefits proposals seriously. We have set another date to meet to continue bargaining on May 3, 2023.
SEIU-West will be setting up another Unit membership meeting, following the May 3rd bargaining date, to let you all know how negotiations are moving forward and to make sure we have prioritized your expectations. We will also be talking about actions and strategies we can use to demonstrate to the Employer that we all are resolved to get a fair and reasonable Collective Agreement that you all will accept.
On behalf of the Committee, if you have questions about bargaining and/or your collective agreement contact the Member Resource Centre (MRC) by phone at 1-888-999-7348 ext 2298, by email at [email protected], or by using the contact form on our website.
Your participation in your Union makes us all strong!
