Greetings Sisters, Brothers, and Colleagues,
When your bargaining committee last met with you, we held a vote to reject the Employer’s offer and to take a strike vote. Almost seventy-five percent of the membership participated in the vote, with the outcome being nearly unanimous (97% +) in favour of taking strike action, should that become necessary.
As both sides agreed we have reached an impasse, the committee notified the Minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety that an impasse has been reached in collective bargaining and requested the mandatory conciliation assistance.
We heard back from the Ministry today, Friday July 14th. The Ministry acknowledges the parties are at an impasse and has assigned Kevin Eckert, a senior labour relations officer, to assist in the conciliation of a Collective Agreement. He is directed to get in touch with the parties to start the conciliation process. We expect to hear from Mr. Eckert next week. Stay tuned for more updates as information becomes available.
On behalf of the Committee, if you have questions about bargaining and/or your collective agreement contact the Member Resource Centre (MRC) by phone at 1-888-999-7348 ext 2298, by email at [email protected], or by using the contact form at www.seiuwest.ca.
Your participation in your Union makes us all strong!
