Melanie works in an urban long term care facility within both the Laundry and Housekeeping departments.

She and her partner work through a minimum of 16-17 loads of regular laundry and 3 loads of client laundry per shift. Melanie loves her job; she is joined by her co-workers as part of a strong team – they lean on each other so if their partner is running behind, the other helps out. After bringing the dirty laundry down, throwing everything in the washers and dryers, they fold and stock carts as well as deliver personal laundry to the residents. A quick chat with a resident often makes Melanie’s day.

There are only two washers and two dryers so when a machine breaks, laundry piles up quickly. It also gets pretty hot with machines running all day, gowns, masks, face shields and gloves, so they dress like it’s summer in the middle of the winter!

She was excited to get a job with the health region and is hopeful to one day get a full time position. Prior to COVID, she worked at another site as well, but cohorting has put a pause on that.

Thank you to Melanie and her team for your dedication and hard work!
