June is National Indigenous Peoples Month. This is a time to honour the rich history, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. It is an opportunity to reflect on historical and current injustices and commit to true reconciliation in Canada.
The First Nations, Métis and Inuit Committee would like to share some events and resources with you and encourage you to participate in events in your area.
SEIU-West is hosting our first Asian Pacific Islander Summit in Saskatoon on September 24-26, 2026 — an event to bring together workers from across Canada and the U.S.
Being an API member in Canada or the U.S can sometimes feel isolating. You might not have seen yourself in leadership. You may not have always felt seen or understood. But you can find a home with us. We believe in you. We see you. And most importantly, you belong.
Welcome home.
There is currently a vacancy on the SEIU-West Executive Board for members that work for the Community Based Organizations Sector.

The SEIU-West First Nations, Métis and Inuit Committee (FNMIC) is hosting a contest to design an image for orange shirts that the committee provides yearly to members. Submit your design to enter to win a $100 Co-op gift card.
Amidst these trying times, it seems fitting that SEIU-West recognize both Occupational Health & Safety Week (May 2 to 8) and Mental Health Week (May 3 to 9) simultaneously this year.
The volatile and unpredictable situations that you have worked and lived over the course of 2020 and 2021, has come at a great expense physically, and mentally.
However, there is light.
There are resources to support every one of you, both in and outside of your workplace. You need only reach out.
Whether it is for you or for someone you care about, SEIU-West is just a click or call away at 1.888.999.7348 ext. 2298.
As a Union, we rely on the specialists in the field of OH&S and Mental Health, to help guide our support and education of Members. Through the Canadian Mental Health Association website, Members will find an abundance of helpful resources.
Another resource is the United Way’s initiative, Saskatchewan 211 – you can call or text 211, they offer live chat as well. Not only can they link you with mental health services in your community but other services as well.
The SEIU-West Worker Safety Committee has also chosen to participate in a very special campaign, supporting people who have lost loved ones, through their participation in this year’s Threads for Life campaign. More information can be found here.
SEIU-West is also proud to employ staff who have been trained in Mental Health First Aid, in order to be properly equipped to provide support to you as Members. In addition to this, we continue to educate Members, on the important issues related to Occupational Health and Safety, ensuring that we incorporate Mental Health issues solidly in our course materials. Review your education opportunities on your Union’s website and register for available training that interests you by clicking here.
Your Union has taken serious steps in providing you with information in terms of additional resources. Our COVID 19 page is always available as a quick link at the bottom of every page on our website, leading to a host of resources for your OH&S and Mental Health needs.
Insist on better, always. Better workplaces that enshrine your safety, both physically and mentally. And - let’s make a collective commitment, to act together and on behalf of each other – now, more than ever. Take care & stay safe!
