Changes to union dues are governed by the SEIU-West Constitution which is amended and voted on by members during Conventions that take place every two years.
At the 2023 Convention held from May 30 to June 1 in Saskatoon, the delegates representing members from across the province of Saskatchewan voted in favour of removing the dues cap (which in 2023 was $49) starting on January 1, 2024.
This means that, effective January 1, 2024, the dues of SEIU-West shall be 1.7% of gross bi-weekly pay. This percentage has not changed.
If you are a member of SEIU-West who is on a leave of absence, it is your responsibility to remit minimum dues of $10.00 per month directly to SEIU-West as per the Constitution to remain a members in good standing—your employer doesn’t remit dues when you are on a leave of absence. This has been in effect since January 1, 2021. Only members in good standing are eligible to attend educationals, conferences, conventions, and vote on collective agreements, unit elections or job action.
The initiation and reinstatement fee remains at $10.00.
If you require any further information on the changes to the dues calculations, the Member Resource Centre (MRC) by phone 1-888-999-7348 ext. 1; email [email protected]; or use the contact form on the website.
