The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on the day police in Sharpeville, South Africa, opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid "pass laws" in 1960. Since that day the apartheid system in South Africa has been dismantled, racist laws and practices have been abolished in many countries; however far too many people continue to experience racial discrimination.

In recognition of this important day, The Young Worker Committee and Multicultural Mentorship Committee are pleased to offer SEIU-West members their own Stop Racism black shirt. We have a limited number of shirts to give away, so this process will be on a first come, first served basis. In order to provide shirts free of cost, members are requested to pick their shirt up at one of our three offices. The deadline to apply to request a shirt is Tuesday February 21st. You can request yours by clicking here and completing the form

If you would like to be featured on our social media, take a picture of you and your co-workers wearing your black Stop Racism shirt and submit it to us at [email protected].
