Virtual Townhall Meeting Rescheduled

Greetings Sisters and Brothers,
The term of the collective agreement between SEIU-West and West Park Crossing ended on July 24, 2021. The Union served notice to the Employer to bargain amendments to the Collective Agreement on May 13, 2021.
The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that the way the Union has to meet with our members, and the Employer, is done on-line through virtual meeting rooms. It’s not ideal, as it adds a lot of time to the bargaining process.
Bob Laurie, Director of Contract Bargaining and Enforcement for SEIU-West and Katelyn Almen, Union Representative for the Westpark Crossing facility, met with the West Park Crossing membership on June 15 via Zoom to discuss the bargaining process and our initial steps. We discussed the procedure for recruiting members for the bargaining committee and using a survey to gather proposals from the membership. The Union heard from its members about issues at work and concerns about the employer’s proposed reorganization of positions.
Through expressions of interest, we have recruited a two-person bargaining committee. Your 2021 bargaining committee is Selene Desjardins and Rubilyn Mercene. Congratulations! We are now working on producing a bargaining survey to send out in paper form for members to fill out and give back to Selene or Rubilyn. We would like to have the survey completed by September 10, 2021.
Once the bargaining committee has analyzed the survey results and put together a bargaining proposal package, we will be setting dates with the Employer to commence bargaining.
