We invite you to join your fellow SEIU-West members at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Saskatoon Downtown (formerly Radisson) in May for two and a half days focused on building worker power, skills, and our union.

As set out by the SEIU-West Constitution, a Convention of members must be held every two years commencing in 2011. During this event we discuss and debate the issues impacting our members, elect our Union leaders, and learn about member-driven campaigns.

This Convention is an opportunity for SEIU-West members to ignite the passion that moves us to stand up and stand with our coworkers and all those seeking a better world.

We can’t wait to see you there!

You’ll find delegates, SEIU-West staff, and invited guests at Convention. Only delegates have the right to full participation (i.e. voice and vote) in Convention business such as nominations, elections, debates, and votes on resolutions and amendments.
As detailed in the SEIU-West Constitution, delegates are selected as follows:

  • Each unit is entitled to send one (1) delegate per 100 unit members, or portion thereof, to a maximum of 20 delegates.
  • Each current member of the SEIU-West Executive Board is an automatic delegate, and is not counted as part of their unit’s delegate entitlement.
  • The Unit Chair is the automatic first delegate. If the unit is entitled to additional delegates, the unit must hold a unit meeting to select those delegates. If you’re interested in becoming a delegate, attend this meeting—check the union board at work or the Events page on the SEIU-West website to see if and when the meeting is being held.

If you are a delegate (whether automatic or selected), or a staff member assigned to attend, you must submit a delegate registration form no later than April 17, 2025.
A delegate must be a Member in Good Standing (MIGS) of SEIU-West—which includes paying, on time, the full dues and other payments prescribed by the SEIU-West Constitution.
For more information on the delegate selection process (e.g. how many delegates each unit gets to send, whether a meeting is needed to select delegates, etc.), email [email protected]

SEIU-West will cover the following expenses for delegates:

  • Lost wages.
  • Meals that are not provided at the Convention.
  • Mileage—carpooling is mandatory.
  • Accommodations—room sharing is recommended, and may be required.
  • This is a scent free Convention. In order to allow everyone to fully participate, please leave your perfume, cologne, and all scented products at home.
  • This is a mask friendly Convention. While masking is not mandatory, we ask that attendees respect people's decision to mask and/or physically distance.
  • Should you have any concerns, please contact your local SEIU-West office.

The Resolutions and Amendments (R&A) Committee is responsible for drafting the Rules of Convention, and any proposed amendments to the SEIU-West Constitution—both of which will be debated and voted on at Convention. Each delegate will be sent a copy of the Rules and all proposed Constitutional amendments no later than April 27, 2025. If you have questions for the R&A Committee, please submit them to [email protected] with “R&A Committee” in the subject line.

SEIU-West is governed by an Executive Board of three Officers (President, Vice-President, and Treasurer), three Trustees, 14 Members-at-Large (MALs), and representatives from the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Committee (FNMIC), the Gender and Sexual Diversity Committee (GSDC), the Workers of Colour Multicultural Mentorship Committee (WOCMMC), and the Young Worker Committee (YWC).

For questions related to who can be a candidate, email [email protected].

Yes—but they must not campaign “on union time” in other words, while being paid by the union to do other work of the union. Their campaign messaging and activities should focus on their own qualities and accomplishments, not on those of other candidates. A campaign page will soon be set up on the SEIU-West website. Candidates may submit a photo and short (maximum 250 words) biographical statement for posting on this campaign page. The Elections Committee must approve the statement and photo, as well as any campaign materials that the candidates wish to distribute in the Convention Hall.

For questions related to candidates' campaigns, email [email protected].
