SEIU-West is dedicated to building a strong ethical culture within all levels of our union. Members have the right to expect that the leaders and staff of their union will carry out their duties and use union resources for the good of the membership rather than for personal or private interests.

To help ensure that these expectations are met, SEIU International requires all locals to follow the requirements spelled out in the SEIU Code of Ethics and Conflict of Interest Policy. One of the requirements is to have an Ethics Liaison.

The SEIU-West Ethics Liaison is appointed by the SEIU-West President and confirmed by the SEIU-West Executive Board for a two-year term, with the possibility of renewal.
The position is open to any member in good standing of SEIU-West, other than the President, Vice-President, or Treasurer.
To be considered for the position, you must be a person of the highest integrity, and willing and able to be an ethical leader within SEIU-West. You must also provide three references to support your application.

Duties of the Ethics Liaison:

  • Provide ethics advice and guidance to members and staff.
  • Serve as SEIU-West’s key contact with SEIU-International’s Ethics Ombudsperson
  • Assist with the enforcement of the SEIU Code of Ethics and Conflict of Interest Policy, for example by:
    • Receiving complaints from members and staff concerning alleged violations of the Code, and investigating and reporting on those complaints; and
    • Receiving required disclosures from officers, Executive Board members, and staff of potential conflicts of interest.
  • Oversee the delivery of ethics-related training in SEIU-West.
  • Help to strengthen the ethical culture of SEIU-West.

The work will be on an as-needed basis, likely totaling about 8 hours per month. Time and reasonable expenses will be remunerated in accordance with SEIU-West policies.

The person selected for the position will receive initial and regular continuing training from the International Union.

To apply, please complete the online form no later than July 31, 2025.
