Dear Members,
For Immediate Release - October 4, 2019
Saskatoon – Nearly 90% of workers at Green Falls Landing in Regina have voted in favour of joining five other Revera Retirement facilities as members of SEIU-West.
"Our newest members overcame tremendous barriers to form a union,” said Lead Organizer Stacey Lolacher. “In the end, they demonstrated overwhelmingly that they are ready to bargain a strong collective agreement to address the many issues they are experiencing in the workplace."
These workers voted yes to fight for job security, better wages and to have fair processes in place.
“Our other Revera Retirement workers shared similar experiences prior to forming their union with SEIU-West,” added Lolacher. “They were able to alleviate their concerns through the collective bargaining process, and we feel it will be the same for the workers at Green Falls Landing.”
SEIU-West believes that non-union workers who are struggling in their workplace should reach out to a union to determine if forming a union is right for them.
“We encourage the remaining non-union Revera Retirement workers to follow the path laid by the workers at Green Falls Landing and come together,” added Barbara Cape, President of SEIU-West. “We're stronger together when we join together."
SEIU-West represents over 13,000 people across Saskatchewan. They include people who work in health care, education, municipalities, community-based organizations, retirement homes and other sectors. They are joined by one colour – purple – and one union – SEIU-West. Purple works in our communities! Visit PurpleWorks.ca to find out more about SEIU-West members.
