The Municipal Employees’ Pension Commission (the Commission) met on May 17, 2024.
Meeting with its actuary, the Commission received a presentation on demographic trends in Saskatchewan as well as across Canada. The Commission also reviewed and approved the actuarial valuation of the Municipal Employees’ Pension Plan (MEPP, the Plan) as at December 31, 2023.
Meeting with its general investment consultant, the Commission received information on MEPP’s investments as at March 31, 2024.
Meeting with Plannera Pensions and Benefits (Plannera), the Plan administrator, the Commission approved the evaluations of its Private Markets Consultant and Auditor and reviewed the Quarterly Financial Report as at March 31, 2024.
Additionally, meeting with Plannera, the Commission received information on Plan administration and received routine reports tracking its governance of the Plan.
The Commission approved the 2024 Strategic Business Plan for MEPP and received an update on its annual work plan for September 2023 to June 2024. The update provides a structured and organized approach to achieving specific goals and objectives identified within the Commission’s 2023-2024 Strategic Business Plan and aims to track the progress of these initiatives.
The Commission’s next meeting is scheduled for June 20, 2024.

Over 100 workers at Saskatoon’s Prairie Harm Reduction (PHR) were laid off as of 5 p.m. Thursday, April 9. This included 76 SEIU-West members in youth group homes, family support services, and PHR’s education department, who were preparing to negotiate their first collective agreement with PHR.
