The Municipal Employees' Pension Commission (the Commission) met on September 20, 2024.
Meeting with the actuary for the Municipal Employees' Pension Plan (MEPP, the Plan), the Commission discussed the funded status of the Plan and approved filing the funding valuation of the Plan as at December 31, 2023.
Meeting with its general investment consultant, the Commission received information on MEPP's investments as at June 30, 2024 as well as a Deep Dive into the Plan's real estate investments.
Meeting with Plannera Pensions and Benefits (Plannera), the Plan administrator, the Commission received updates on the Plans budget and financial position as at June 30, 2024.
Additionally, meeting with Plannera, the Commission received information and made decisions related to its governance of the plan, such as an update on its annual work plan for September 2024 to June 2025. The work plan provides a structured and organized approach to achieving specific goals and objectives identified within the Commission's 20242025 Strategic Business Plan and aims to track the progress of these initiatives.
The Commission also received information on members' education with respect to the responsibilities set out in the Charter of Expectations in Section 4 of the Commission's Governance Manual.
The Commission also received a presentation on cybersecurity for governing bodies.
The Commission's next meeting is scheduled for November 15, 2024.
