As the holiday season approaches, many in our community may need a little extra support. If you know someone who could benefit from a helping hand, we invite you to nominate them for one of five Christmas hamper baskets or one of thirty Co-op gift cards, courtesy of the Young Workers Committee and Nursing Care Committee.
In 2007, a high school student in Berwick, Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. Two grade 12 students bought 50 pink shirts and encouraged their classmates to wear pink. The next day, they went to distribute the shirts and to their surprise the majority of students had arrived to school wearing pink. That beautiful act of solidarity and kindness prompted Pink Shirt Day. This important day raises awareness about the prevention of bullying and promoting kindness and inclusion and will take place on February 28, 2024.
SEIU-West is pleased to offer our members their own Stop Bullying pink shirt! We have a limited number of shirts to give away, so this process will be on a first come, first served basis. The deadline to apply for a shirt is January 30, 2024. In order to provide the shirts free of cost, we ask that you coordinate pick up at one of our three offices. We always love to see your smiling faces, but especially when you are raising awareness about important issues. If you would like to be featured on our social media wearing your Stop Bullying pink shirt, you can send your pics to [email protected]

Dear Members,
We want to thank those who were able to come out last week to attend our very successful media event at the Legislature in Regina. It was great to see members from the three Health Care Provider Unions (HPUs) from across the province stand together in solidarity. During Question Period, multiple MLAs asked questions to the Premier and the Minister of Health on our behalf. We were also able to have meetings with the Opposition Caucus and the Minister of Health to address our concerns over the slow pace of bargaining and the state of health care in our province.
