June is Pride Month, an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community, while acknowledging the historical and ongoing violence and discrimination faced by this community.
The first pride marches took place in June 1970, one year after the riots at the Stonewall Inn which took place following police raids on the bar which welcomed drag queens, gay men, and members of the trans community. These marches not only commemorated the riots, but served to continue the push for liberation and rights for the queer community.
The SEIU-West Gender and Sexual Diversity Committee would like to share some events which are taking place across Saskatchewan this month. Please note that these events are all hosted by other organizations and take care to check the source for any changes or updates to the events.
