The SEIU-West First Nations, Métis and Inuit Committee (FNMIC) attended the Rock your Roots Walk for Reconciliation on June 21st, National Indigenous Peoples Day. They wanted to share their reflections with you and invite you to join them next year in the walk.
Debbie:
The walk was inspiring, humbling and so energetic...at times it was overwhelming to see the wave of orange and to see how many lives were affected by Residential schools...members should join in the next event and show your support for all the survivors and their families...together we are stronger ❤️
Janell:
It was a little overwhelming to see the wave of orange and to see how many lives were affected by Residential schools, but to also see the students attend was great too. I counted 14 school buses. At the end, one class had letters for every elder that were on the golf carts. The fact that they provided that for the elders were great. The fact that they said they had over 5000 people attend just blew my mind.
I feel next year that SEIU-West should have more of a presence for this function. Members should join in the next event and show your support for all the survivors and their families...together we are stronger.
Angela:
I was amazed of all the support at the Rock Your Roots Event. It was my honour to attend. I would love to support this event more in the future for sure.
