The SEIU-West Education Committee recently sent members to attend the annual Pharmacy Association of Saskatchewan Conference. We require attendees provide reports so we can share what was learned at the event. Have a read:

Michelle:

On September 13th and 14th, I attended the PAS (Pharmacy Association of Saskatchewan) Annual Conference in Saskatoon. Over the course of the weekend, we had 3 amazing Keynote Speakers. One used humour to talk about her personal experience with depression, another taught us about mindfulness and how to apply it, and the last speaker spoke of racism in healthcare and how to address it and included some of her personal experience with racism. While it was hard to hear some of the experiences of the last speaker, it is also important to hear as we move forward with Truth & Reconciliation.

I learned how to optimize pharmacy technicians in both a hospital and community pharmacy setting. In the hospital we can be final product checking IVs and oral dosage forms to go to patients as this would then free up the pharmacists to do more clinical work. We also had presentations on developing leadership skills & pharmacy burnout, which were both excellent.

It's always fun attending conferences and learning new things and how they pertain to pharmacy. There is updated technology to blood glucose sensors, vaccines that are just getting covered by insurance plans, and AI will be coming to a pharmacy near you! And lastly, it’s always nice to catch up with former colleagues!
