When either the employer or the union decide they are at a point in collective bargaining where a collective agreement cannot be achieved at the bargaining table, either party can send a notice of impasse to the other party and to the Minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety.

SAHO continues to refuse to meet to bargain, and has not responded to our last letter. Your SEIU-West bargaining committee requested a special mediator from the Minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, Don Morgan to try to break this deadlock.

The SEIU-West bargaining committee along with members of our Political Action and Awareness committee and Provincial Contract Action Team (ProCAT) took action by going to the Legislature on Tuesday June 16 to call out the Government of Saskatchewan to get back to the bargaining table with the ‘flexibility’ to reach a deal. This was especially timely in light of the provincial government’s budget announcement Monday that outlined increases to the health care budget, but nothing for front line health care providers.

The focus for the Employer side was on managing the pandemic planning and the priority for the Union was providing support and assurance for our front line members.
