June is Pride month and provides an important opportunity to both recognize and celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA++ community, but also to reflect on how far we have come from the first Pride.
The SEIU-West Gender and Sexual Diversity Committee (GSDC) invites you to apply to attend their 2023 Conference. This event will focus on understanding, supporting, and celebrating the needs/concerns/perspectives of 2SLGBTIQ+ persons.
The Conference will be held at Mayfair United Church located at 902 33rd St West in Saskatoon on April 20, 2023.
Conference will be held from 9:00 am until 4:30 pm.
Your completed Expression of Interest form must be submitted by Feb 21, 2023 to allow us to complete the registration and selection process.
For those selected, the committee will cover your costs including: your lost wages/honorarium, mileage, travel time and applicable meals as per our policies. Hotel rooms will also be provided if you are more than 200km away. We ask that you notify us to cancel your hotel if your plans change and you are unable to attend. If you are selected to attend and you are scheduled to work, you can apply for union leave to attend.

May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia.
The SEIU-West Gender and Sexual Diversity Committee (GSDC) awards the After Stonewall Award to a Saskatchewan union member who has shown a high level of advocacy and solidarity with the queer community. This award may be presented to a union member who is an ally, or who identifies as a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
World AIDS Day, designated on December 1 every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. This day was conceived in August of 1987 by James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter.

The Gender and Sexual Diversity Committee would like to take a moment to honour and recognize Transgender Day of Remembrance, reflecting on the lives lost this year due to violence and discrimination against transgender and gender diverse individuals.

December 8 is Pansexual Pride Day. This is an annual celebration of the pansexual community, which recognizes, celebrates, and brings visibility to those who identify as pansexual.
