June is National Indigenous Peoples Month. This is a time to honour the rich history, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. It is an opportunity to reflect on historical and current injustices and commit to true reconciliation in Canada.

SEIU-West is hosting our first Asian Pacific Islander Summit in Saskatoon on September 24-26, 2026 — an event to bring together workers from across Canada and the U.S.

The SEIU-West First Nations, Métis and Inuit Committee (FNMIC) is hosting a contest to design an image for orange shirts that the committee provides yearly to members. Submit your design to enter to win a $100 Co-op gift card.

Saskatchewan—SEIU-West is pleased to share that following our A Safe Spot Means a Lot campaign, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has implemented a new Park & Ride Shuttle Service for workers at Royal University Hospital, the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and the Dube Centre.
SEIU-West's First Nations Métis Inuit Committee (FNMIC) would like to share information about the meaning behind September 30th, Orange Shirt Day. Read Phyllis Webstad's story here. This date was chosen because this was the time of year where children were taken from their homes and put into residential schools.

September 23rd is Bisexual Pride Day, and SEIU-West’s Gender & Sexual Diversity Committee is happy to celebrate our bisexual and pansexual members.
September 10 – 16 is Environmental Services Week and provides us with the opportunity to celebrate the people who are responsible for keeping hospitals and facilities clean. We heard from Lorene, an Environmental Service Worker (ESW) at an urban acute care facility, who shared some details about her job.

This contest is open to SEIU-West members and the deadline to enter is 5pm on September 20th. Winners will be notified by email.
The rally that had been planned for September 23 with the Saskatchewan Health Coalition has been postponed. Because of the interest from many people, it will be rescheduled to allow for more participation.
