Saskatoon—Supporters of a strong public healthcare system joined SEIU-West members at the Saskatoon Cabinet Office to highlight the need for government investment in the patients, clients, and residents and the people who care for them in this province.
In our most recent update, we had identified to our SEIU-West members that vacation banks, time in lieu banks and stat/pro-stat banks would be posted in your workplaces by the end of March. Unfortunately, it was only recently brought to our attention that this did not happen
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and SEIU-West have resolved the outstanding grievances filed in response to the Proof of Vaccination/Monitored Testing Program.
The SEIU-West Multicultural Mentorship Committee (MMC) is highlighting some information by the Saskatchewan Intercultural Association on how to apply for Canadian Citizenship.
March 31 will mark the end of all publicly owned liquor stores in this province and the dismantling of another crown corporation. In September 2007, the Saskatchewan Party said they would not privatize Crown corporations. Since then, they have sold, closed and chipped away at a variety of Crowns.
Saskatoon—In response to the increased number of incidents and assaults reported by healthcare workers in Saskatoon, SEIU-West has launched their A Safe Spot Means A Lot campaign. The lack of parking available for staff coupled with the expansion of residential parking permit zones has resulted in healthcare workers walking for up to 20 minutes, alone in the dark, on streets which may not be shoveled, or even have sidewalks.
Saskatchewan—The Health Standards Organization (HSO) has released their highly anticipated Long-Term Care (LTC) standards. SEIU-West strongly supports these standards and encourages that they be made mandatory across Canada.

Sisters, Brothers and Comrades,

In 2007 a high school student in Berwick Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. Two grade 12 students bought 50 pink shirts and encouraged their classmates to wear pink. The next day, they went to distribute the shirts and to their surprise the majority of students had arrived to school wearing pink. That beautiful act of solidarity and kindness prompted Pink Shirt Day. This important day raises awareness about the prevention of bullying and promoting kindness and inclusion and will take place on February 22, 2023.
