On February 10, 2022 Extendicare Canada announced it was selling its Esprit Lifestyle division to Sienna-Sabra LP, a partnership between the US company SABRA Healthcare REIT and the Canadian company Sienna Senior Living.

The parties met on October 19, 20 and 21, via the Zoom Virtual Meeting Platform, and exchanged proposals packages. Additional dates of January 19 and 20, 2022 were agreed to, and the parties met on these dates. A lot of time was spent discussing the wage and wage classification schedule. We were to meet again on February 2 and 3, 2022, however these dates were cancelled, with very short notice by the employer, due to the pending sale of Extendicare’s Esprit holdings to Sienna-Sabre LP.

The term of the collective agreement between SEIU-West and West Park Crossing ended on July 24, 2021. The Union served notice to the Employer to bargain amendments to the Collective Agreement on May 13, 2021.

On February 11, 2019 your Bargaining Committee attended an Interest Arbitration between West Park Crossing and SEIU-West, in Regina. The purpose of this Arbitration is to settle all the outstanding collective bargaining issues between the parties. SEIU-West’s lawyer did an outstanding job in presenting your issues to the arbitrator.

As you are likely aware, the membership rejected the Tentative CBA that was put forward to you by your bargaining committee on July 25, 2018. Subsequent to that SEIU-West informed the employer that we would be having a strike vote on August 2nd 2018.
