June is National Indigenous Peoples Month. This is a time to honour the rich history, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. It is an opportunity to reflect on historical and current injustices and commit to true reconciliation in Canada.

The SEIU-West First Nations, Métis and Inuit Committee (FNMIC) is hosting a contest to design an image for orange shirts that the committee provides yearly to members. Submit your design to enter to win a $100 Co-op gift card.
Sisters in Spirit Day is held every year on October 4th to honour and remember Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit (MMIWG2S+) people who have gone missing or been murdered in Canada. It’s a day of action where people come together for vigils and events to raise awareness about the ongoing violence Indigenous communities face, and to stand in solidarity with the families and loved ones who are affected.
The SEIU-West Gender and Sexual Diversity Committee (GSDC) is hosting a Drag Bingo in support of Out Saskatoon. This fun event is completely free to attend and is open to SEIU-West members, as well as family and friends who want to support a good cause and have fun! Did we mention the prizes? Attendees will have a chance to win from an amazing array of prizes, ranging from your favourite SEIU-West merch, gift cards, and more!

September 21st is World Peace Day and SEIU-West's Workers of Colour Multicultural Mentorship Committee is celebrating with a contest!
September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day is intended to honour the survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities. This day is meant to reflect on the history and legacy of residential schools. It is also known as Orange Shirt Day, a movement that recognizes the colonial history of residential schools.

SEIU-West's First Nations, Métis and Inuit Committee and Workers of Colour Multicultural Mentorship Committee are pleased to co-sponsor up to two (2) members to attend the People Bridge Advocacy event: TRC Calls to Action - Walking Together: A Sharing Circle Gathering for Truth and Reconciliation on Saturday, September 27th 2025 from 9:00am - 4:00pm located at 359 1st Ave North (Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans office) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
The SEIU-West's Workers of Colour Multicultural Mentorship Committee (WoCMMC) will be sponsoring one (1) SEIU-West member to attend the THREADS Cultural Conversations 2025 Conference on October 7 and 8, 2025, hosted by the Saskatoon Open Door Society. This is a virtual conference. Day one is from 9:30-4:30 and day two is from 9:30-12:00. The WoCMMC will reimburse lost wages for those who are selected to attend according to our policies.
